Capturing Kindness Award
Capturing Kindness Award
Capturing Kindness in Fayette County!
Communities That Care of Fayette County is proud to be launching a new initiative called The Capturing Kindness Award. Not intended to brag, but to inspire! It is a program to honor area high school students each month with an award, a small feature in The Daily Courier newspaper, Communities That Care social media posts, and sharing a video that awardees will create. In the Spring, we will hold a small reception to recognize all awardees.
What is the Capturing Kindness Award?
Many high school students in our county receive recognition for their academic, athletic, club, and social project achievements, and this is so important! However, this award has a different direction and is not focused on these achievements.
The goal of this award is nontraditional in nature and is focused on spotlighting high school students who are doing good in our county and who are largely unrecognized. The youth we are seeking for nomination are quietly making a difference in Fayette County in small, important ways. These students are impacting their community by doing things such as doing favors for their sick neighbor, routinely volunteering each week at a nursing home, or collecting a team of like-minded people to solve a community issue but without the backing of an organization.
Why are we giving these awards?
There are many ways for students to achieve recognition, and most of them are through a traditional track such as: grades, sports, clubs, etc. Those youth have accolades to add to their resume, or college/ trade school application. Our award is created to recognize those students who are helping to change Fayette County for the better through small but important acts of kindness. Thus, also giving our recipients the opportunity to have distinctions to add to their biography, resume, or post-secondary school application.
How does it work?
Beginning 2024-2025 school year, we will choose winner(s) each month from those who are nominated by members of the community, teachers, guidance counselors, family, and friends. The community’s participation is essential because they know these students and are in the best position to determine the most deserving candidates.
All high school students are eligible regardless of public school, private school, or homeschool attendance
